Why History Is Important to Every Culture

A culture that pays too much attention to its past may lose its sight on the future. They may lose the track of the trajectories they are in, giving dominance to the historical ideas instead of development and variation. A culture without history is either a newly born or in an oblivion of its roots, etymology and what forms it has gone through before the rise of its present form. These and the creation of ethnic identity are a part the reason of why history is important to every culture, explored in this summarization. You can understand how the history of a culture plays a role in giving an ethnic identity by considering how independently on any racial or ethnic background, the individuals who are born into another culture than their ancestors adopt the culture they are born into as their own. This is most vivid in the United States of America, who host individuals perhaps from every known culture or close to that amount. This is mainly caused by the adaptive abilities of the human neurophysiology of the brain, even in adaptation into a new culture other than an individual has lived-in for a while. And this exact adaptation to a culture is the heart of the importance why we must give more of our attention to the history we create. The collective history of the global world is what has resulted in this realm. The ideas that have been designed by our instincts (sexism, tribal divination, male dominance) rather than reason, should be paid as much attention as the debate on the existence of god. The residues of the bad old days should also be recognized and replaced by new ones to occupy the mental space. Why? Is it not exotic to first learn that something has to be in some particular way and not let go of the idea although there are better, more developed ideas. What price is in such pride and stubbornness? Consequently, the following generations must also carry that cross. Now the existence of history is more than merely seeing the events that have taken place, they also serve as the landscape of the present. And more importantly, history represents a detailed description on the scale and amount of different variation the brains are able to produce in its adaptive nature. We learn what set of circumstances causes tensions that lead through escalation to the ignition of violence and war. We find from the pages of our history what leads to increased productivity or creativity. And with studying the history of a culture in terms of causal history, that which has led to the emergence of the type and form of the present can be understood through the sequence of events that have taken place in the past. They have later in consequence produced the emergence of the present. This type of sense of the causal history is vital in forming the rightful respect towards the ancestors and their pioneering labor. And, in forming the rightful respect towards the work and labor displayed in all levels by the individuals of the culture, since in respect to causal history, the present is what leads to the emergence of the future in the form dependent on the existing generations. The ancestors will always be causally present with us. The effects of every individual who has lived on this planet are with us. And the work that we do is fated to carry the same responsibility. That how we shape this realm is where the following generations will find themselves from. And in the present, we have the power to alter the transient forms of the culture. And we should use this power for bettering humanity, cut the trajectories of war and alter this realm to service countless of generations after our departure. All this needs is generations of labor, just as building the Great Wall of China took. Leave the past, return to present and rise to the future. When it now comes to the famous historical figures of the culture, they in their best serve to display the core beliefs of a culture. They usually also serve as people who have given in ideological and in physical level (such as the infrastructure) shape in defining level to the now existing form of the culture. Therefore altering the course of history and altering the course of the emerging future. The power of the powerful figures in the past does not end to their deaths, they carry powerful and lasting effects even after their deaths. They have become historically immortal in the reality of the known. Their actions are still giving shape to the form of the unfolding future. Their values still guide the actions of the individuals in the present. And their voices echo from the written history and mouths of the living as strongly as though they were still alive. In respect over all the ancestors, history is important to every culture.Copyright © 2010 Henry M. Piironen
